Etihad reports June 2024 numbers, strikes partnership with Malaysia’s Batik Air
Etihad Airways has released its preliminary traffic statistics for June 2024, reporting carrying 1.5 million guests, a whopping 34% YoY in increase. In June Etihad launched eight additional locations including Bali, Jaipur and Al Qassim and seasonal destinations Nice, Antalya, Mykonos, Santorini and Malaga. The airline also unveiled a special livery on one of the three A321neos that have already joined its fleet this year, with a further three joining shortly.
Meanwhile, the airline have also launched a codeshare agreement with Batik Air Malaysia to boost connectivity for passengers of both airlines. Etihad’s guests can now seamlessly access eight domestic and international locations via Batik’s hub at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, inlcuding Johor Bahru, Langkawi, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Tawau in Malaysia, as well as Da Nang and Hanoi in Vietnam, and Perth in Australia. With the agreement, both inbound and outbound Malaysia passengers will also enjoy a wider choice of flights on the combined networks.
Qatar Airways deepens relationship with FC Internazionale Milano
Qatar Airways has become the Official Main Training Kit Partner, as well as remaining Inter’s Official Airline Partner with FC Internazionale Milano (Inter). This means the Qatar Airways logo will now be prominently featured on all training apparel and warm-up jerseys at all competitions, including Serie A, Coppa Italia, FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ and UEFA Champions League. The expanded partnership extends across all teams, including Inter Women and the Inter youth sector, and encompasses all business units from the existing Qatar Airways agreement, including Hamad International Airport, Qatar Duty Free Shopping, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, and Qatar Airways Holidays.
Turkish Airlines commenced daily flights between Istanbul and Turin
Turkish Airlines commenced daily flights between Istanbul and Turin on 10 July , marking its 9th destination in Italy and 349th in the world. This route offers passengers seamless connections through the flag carrier’s flight network across six continents. Celebrating the launch, Turkish Airlines CEO Bilal Ekşi said the strenghtening of the airline’s ties with Italy grants passengers “the opportunity to experience the wonders of Turin, Italy’s first historical capital city”; while Elisabetta Oliveri, Chairman of Torino Airport, said the new service opens up new growth prospects for Turin Airport, after two consecutive years in which a traffic record was set.”
Technology advancements heading to the Air Expo Abu Dhabi
The upcoming Air Expo in Abu Dhabi will highlight the latest innovations in aviation technology with a special Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) pavilion. Set to take place from 1-3 November, the event aims to showcase cutting-edge advancements and future trends in the aviation industry. Saudi Arabia records growth in air travel
Saudi civil aviation authorities have recorded a 17% increase in the number of passengers the first of 2024, carrying around 62 million passengers compared to 53 million passengers during the same period last year. The number of flights rose to 446,000, a 12% YoY increase. Airfreight volume also enjoyed a 41% increase over the last six months, reaching 606,000 tons compared.
Weekly Sharjah to Vienna routes with Air Arabia
Middle Eastern low-cost carrier Air Arabia is expanding its European network by introducing non-stop flights from Sharjah to Austria’s capital, Vienna. Starting 20 December this year, the service will operate four times a week, creating opportunities for leisure and business travellers. The airline’s modern Airbus A320 and A321 neo-LR aircraft will service the route to ensure comfort and convenience for passengers. Included on the flights will be complementary in-flight streaming with ‘SkyTime’.
Sharjah Airport’s new security investment
Sharjah Airport Authority is investing in advanced security technology to enhance passenger safety and operational efficiency. A new contract with Nuctech Middle East will see a supply of 67 high-tech X-ray security inspection devices. This contract is part of the airport’s expansion project, which aims to handle 25 million passengers annually by 2027. The equipment will enhance security for passengers, baggage, cargo, and customs inspections. SAA Chairman Ali Salim Al Midfa and Nuctech’s General Manager Meng Qiang attended the contract signing ceremony.
