Environmental stewardship and conservation efforts are a recurring priority in the Middle East. Here are the latest sustainability stories you might have missed: 

Jumeirah celebrates with an ocean conservation panel

In honour of the 20th anniversary of its Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project (DTRP), Jumeirah hosted a panel discussion on ocean conservation. The event, titled “Out of Sight is not Out of Mind: Our Collective Responsibility to Preserve our Ocean,” highlighted collaborative efforts and innovative solutions to protect marine ecosystems. Jumeirah and its community also celebrated by releasing 63 rehabilitated turtles back into the wild.

Saudi inspires youth sustainability with Namour

In an effort to inspire Saudi Arabia’s youth to be more environmentally conscious, the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) launched Namour, an Arabian leopard character that symbolises Saudi’s commitment to sustainability. Namour focuses on increasing awareness of critically endangered animals, conservation, and rewilding efforts, particularly for the Arabian leopard, Nubian ibex, Arabian sand gazelles, and the Arabian oryx. 

Turkish Airlines launches ‘Tomorrow On-Board’ brand

On World Environment Day, Turkish Airlines aptly announced its new sustainability brand, β€˜Tomorrow On-Board,’ and held a special event at Istanbul Airport. The brand, aimed at reducing the airline’s carbon footprint and promoting eco-friendly practices showcased sustainable in-flight products, including items made from repurposed aircraft parts.

DoubleTree by Hilton cleans up beaches in Sharjah 

DoubleTree by Hilton in Sharjah conducted a beach and sea clean-up program, engaging employees and community members in environmental conservation. The initiative aimed to remove plastic waste and other pollutants from the coastline, fostering a cleaner and healthier marine environment. 

BE WTR’s new bottling plant concept

At The Hotel Show, BE WTR announced its new sustainable, fully automatic bottling plant concept. BE WTR’s initiatives focus on using reusable bottles and promoting water filtration systems to minimise environmental impact. The new 50 sq m plant design would fit in a car parking space in most hotels and would be capable of producing 5,000 bottles of water per day.
