Six travel mistakes we’re leaving behind in 2025!

It’s a new dawn. It’s a new year. And we’re taking a new approach to travel by leaving behind some of our biggest holiday blunders.

As we immerse ourselves in 2025, we’re ditching unhealthy travel behaviours from booking without the support of an expert, contributing to over tourism and trusting outsiders with local experiences.

To ensure your dream holidays come true this year, here are six travel mistakes we recommend leaving behind in 2025 (by the way, did you hear 90s tech is back and heavily influencing travel over the next 12 months – it’s true!):

Mistake 1: Contributing to over tourism

In 2025, we’re going down new paths, eschewing overtourism hotspots for emerging destinations in the Middle East North Africa region, including Saudi ArabiaQatarOmanJordan and Morocco.

By venturing off the beaten track, we’ll be discovering hidden gems like Al Ain, Fujairah, Masirah Island, Purple Island and many, many others that are home to some of the region’s most spectacular and dramatic landscapes, ancient traditions and rich history.

Mistake 2: Booking without expertise and support

This year, we’re making space for booking travel with the expertise and support that comes with a travel agent.

We’re no longer only relying on self-research and online reviews (although useful tools) to guide our holidays. Rather, we’re seeking out people that are immersed in the industry and have a wealth of knowledge which they ready to share and apply to ensure our travels are seamless, enjoyable and memorable (in the most positive ways).

Through travel agents, our flights, hotel and tour bookings are protected. Furthermore, making last minute changes are far more convenient with the assistance of travel professionals as opposed to spending hours of our own holiday time trying to contact the tour providers ourselves.

Mistake 3: Trusting outsiders with an authentic experience

In 2025, we’re making space for booking local. Through the help of travel consultants, we’re seeking out organisations that work with local guides and securing tours ourselves with local experts.

Booking local is the only way to guarantee an authentic travel experience and it helps to spread wealth directly to local communities. Besides, who else knows the best eats than someone born, raised and living in a destination?!

Mistake 4: Holding back on booking the dream holiday

No more umm-ing and ahh-ing! We’re making space for booking exactly the type of holiday we want. Budgets be gone – we’ve spent the last 12 months trying to recover from the financial crisis, now it’s time to live it up by booking that super luxury hotel, once-in-a-lifetime experience and even flying private

Our heart’s desires in travel will be met over the next 12 months and it’ll come with absolutely no regret!

Mistake 5: Putting full trust on the airline to get your bags there safely

This year, we are making space for acknowledging the short falls of airlines. In a single day, an airline will process and fly thousands of suitcases, leaving room for error and our precious items to go missing.

Fortunately, there are now solutions such as air tags and other tracking tools that enable us to monitor our suitcases as they make their separate journey to our travel destination. So let’s try to take these little things into our own hands and help the system out a little.

Mistake 6: Travelling without travel insurance!

In 2025, we’re making space for something that should have had space made decades ago – travelling WITH travel insurance! Taking the “I’ll be alright” approach to travel is a no-go. Instead, let’s ensure we are protecting ourselves, our belongings and our finances by purchasing travel insurance ahead of any trip. Whether it be for leisure or business or both, we’re not boarding a flight this year without the security of cover.
