In a significant milestone, Riyadh Air has awarded a SR1.5 billion (US$400 million) contract to Saudi Ground Services Co. for ground handling services at King Khalid International Airport.
Starting 1 September 2024, the 4.5-year partnership (with a potential two-year extension) will supercharge Riyadh Air’s operations, ensuring seamless baggage handling, aircraft servicing, and passenger terminal services. Meanwhile, the airline has also launched a fleet of electric coaches for employee transport, marking an important step towards sustainable aviation practices. In a bid to reduce the airline’s environmental footprint, the initiative, in partnership with National Transportation Solutions Company and TAM-Europe, will providing eco-friendly daily commutes for staff.
In alignment with Riyadh Air‘s commitment to adopting the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, CEO Tony Douglas emphasised the airline’s dedication to sustainability, stating that it is “embedded in our DNA” and will be reflected across all operations, from fuel efficiency to reducing carbon emissions.
Gearing up for its launch next year, Riyadh Air released its stylish cabin crew uniform at the Haute Coutuer Week in June. The airline had previously ordered 72 widebody Boeing Dreamliner 787s; and aims to connect Saudi Arabia to 100 regional and international destinations by 2030.
