With the summer travel season in full swing, International SOS has shared some essential guidelines to help keep travellers safe and healthy on the go.

Pre-travel prep

To ensure mazimum enjoyment while on holidays, travellers should not only get a pre-travel health check-up to stay on top of vaccinations and health conditions; but also throughly research the destination(s) like a pro to familiarise themselves with the weather conditions, potential health risks, different cultural norms, and any security concerns.

    Stay Safe on the Road

Part of the safety research is ensuring accommodation optoins are chosen wisely. It’s safest to pick a credible booking site and read reviews from fellow travellers.

As with anywhere in the world, it’s best to stay alert and watch out for traveller-targeted risks such as pickpocketing and scams.

Health wise, travellers should also be mindful of heatstroke, so best to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and take breaks in the shade.

    Food for thought

While foodie adventures are very much part of the experience (who doesn’t like to try new flavours and local delicacies, right?), travellers should also be cautious with unfamiliar food and water sources. Where possible, opt for bottled water and cooked meals. A bout of food poisoning won’t be any fun for anyone!

Don’t let excitement cloud your judgment

Dr. Ehab Chalabie, Medical Director at International SOS reminds travellers that “warmer weather can worsen underlying health conditions, leading to severe symptoms and complications.” Stay informed, consult with healthcare professionals, and take preventive measures to ensure a safe and healthy trip!

Gulnaz Ukassova, Security Director at International SOS, emphasizes the importance of “fostering a strong security awareness culture within organizations.” Stay vigilant, conduct thorough destination research, and minimize your vulnerability to threats.
