Congratulations, it’s a… brand new cruise ship. Viking has launched its latest Nile River ship, the Viking Sobek, in a traditional float-out ceremony in Cairo’s Massara Shipyard ahead of the predicted autumn 2024 sail date.

This event marks the first time the ship touches water and signifies a major milestone in its construction. Viking Sobek, designed specifically for the Egyptian market, will offer luxury accommodation for up to 82 guests across 41 staterooms. It will join the growing Viking fleet for the popular 12-day β€˜Pharaohs & Pyramids’ cruise alongside its new sister ship, Viking Hathor, scheduled to debut this summer.

MoU signed between Cruise Saudi and Jeddah Historic District Program

In a strategic partnership that aims to cater to increasing cruise visitors, Cruise Saudi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with JHD (Jeddah Historic District Program) to promote tourism and increase international cruise visitors while preserving Jeddah’s cultural heritage.

Regeneration of the district, as well as wider economic growth, is on the agenda with this partnership, and it has been agreed that the district’s UNESCO status must be protected while improving visitor experiences, fostering job creation, and supporting local entrepreneurship and investment.

Expanding into the Gulf of Oman and Arabian Gulf for an inaugural six-month season, Resort World Cruises will offer two-night and three-night cruises combined for a fiveβ€”or seven-night holiday starting in October.

The expansion is the first step towards further cruises in the region, as Resort World Cruises aims to accommodate religious and cultural traveller needs in the Middle East. No pork will be served onboard during the cruises, and meat will be sourced from UAE halal suppliers, while same-gender crew will be available for services onboard, like the spa.
