Dubai is home to a lot of record-breaking attractions and unique experiences. From iconic architecture and rich culture to plenty of luxury, here are the must-visits for a 12-hour stopover in Dubai. 

Burj Khalifa

Begin your stopover with a visit to the Burj Khalifa, also known as the world’s tallest building. Take the high-speed lift to the observation decks on the 124th and 148th floors for breathtaking views of the city. Visitors can also get an interactive history of the building’s construction via the touch screens. Visit the outdoor terraces for panoramic views, and don’t miss a photo opportunity from the ground to capture its full height.

Location: Downtown Dubai, next to The Dubai Mall

World Record: The tallest building in the world at 828m.

Highlight: The restaurant on the 122nd floor means you can enjoy dining in the sky. 

The Dubai Mall and Dubai Fountain

Located near Burj Khalifa and more than 1.1 million sqm, the Dubai Mall is the largest in the world. Enjoy shopping, dining, and entertainment. Plus, visit the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo inside. 

The Dubai Fountain outside the mall is also a record-breaker, so you get two for one when you visit. Water is shot more than 150m in the air along with music and light synchronisation.

Location: Downtown Dubai

World Record: The Dubai Fountain is the largest choreographed fountain in the world at 275m.

Highlight: The water fountain show takes place every half hour in the evening, but it’s most spectacular at night. 

Palm Jumeirah

Visiting Palm Jumeirah in Dubai offers a unique opportunity to experience world-class luxury at iconic resorts like Atlantis, The Palm, while enjoying breathtaking views of the Arabian Gulf and Dubai’s skyline. This man-made island also features pristine beaches, upscale dining, and a range of thrilling water activities, making it a perfect destination for relaxation and adventure during a stopover.

Location: Off the coast of Dubai, accessible by monorail.

World Record: Palm Jumeirah is the world’s largest man-made island at 5.72 sq km and it’s shaped like a palm tree.

Highlight: Visit the Lost Chambers Aquarium at Palm Jumeirah Aquaventure World and enjoy over 65,000 marine animals. 

Dubai Frame

Visiting the Dubai Frame provides a remarkable experience, offering panoramic views of both the modern skyline and the historic parts of the city from a 150m tall observation deck. This iconic landmark also serves as a fascinating bridge between Dubai’s past and present, making it a must-see for those looking to explore the city’s rich cultural and architectural contrasts.

Location: Zabeel Park

World Record: The largest picture frame in the world, standing 150m tall. 

Highlight: Walk on the glass-floored sky bridge for a thrilling experience. One side gives views of old Dubai (like Deira), while the other side shows the city’s modern architecture.

Museum of the Future

For a blend of innovation and culture, visit the Museum of the Future, which has been named one of the top 14 museums in the world. Standing 77m tall and 30,000sqm, the museum showcases futuristic innovations and designs, making it a perfect stop for tech enthusiasts with exhibits that focus on the future of space, health, and sustainability. 

Location: Sheikh Zayed Road, near Emirates Towers.

World Record: Considered the world’s most complex building due to the shape and interior. 

Highlight: The facade of the building was designed by Emirati artist Mattar Bin Lahej and showcases 14,000m of Arabic calligraphy. 

Dubai Miracle Garden (seasonal)

If your stopover is between November and April, the Dubai Miracle Garden is a must-visit. It offers the chance to explore over 150 million blooming flowers, displays, and arranged designs. This colourful attraction is perfect for nature lovers and families, providing a unique outdoor experience in the heart of Dubai. 

Location: Al Barsha South.

World Record: The world’s largest natural flower garden. 

Highlight: Don’t miss the world’s largest floral structure in the garden, an Airbus A380.
