At the Future Hospitality Summit (FHS) Dubai, Georgette Davey, Managing Director of Abu Dhabi Hospitality Academy – Les Roches, stressed the importance of nurturing Emirati talent for global hospitality careers.

Davey highlighted the challenge of balancing global hospitality expertise with Emirati values and cultural identity. She noted that the UAE’s diverse cultural landscape presents a unique opportunity for growth and exchange. By empowering Emiratis with the right skills and training, they can excel on the global stage while preserving their cultural roots, ensuring a blend of global expertise andΒ localΒ heritage.

Having launched in mid-September, Abu Dhabi Hospitality Academy – Les Roches welcomed its first cohort of students, including Emirati nationals. This milestone sparked discussions on nurturing local talent within the UAE’s diverse hospitality ecosystem, which is home to more than 200 nationalities.

Industry leaders Shaikha Al Nowais, Aseem Kapoor, and Werner Anzinger shared insights on attracting young Emiratis to the sector, emphasising the need for a cultural shift, starting early, to showcase the industry’s potential and value. They shared that government support and clear career development pathways have been vital for retaining talent.

Adrian Artimov, VP Enrolment at Sommet Education, highlighted the importance of adapting education to local needs. He noted that many students aspire to entrepreneurship, seeking to open cafes or join family-owned hotels. As AI advances, hospitality roles will evolve, but customer service positions will remain essential.

With the UAE’s hospitality industry projected to grow 25% by 2030 and 40 million new visitors expected in Dubai hotels by 2031, qualified talent is urgently needed. Recognising hospitality as a global career pathway, from foundational education to lifelong learning, is crucial to meet increasing demands; hence the Academy’s focus on ensuring students are equipped with a solid foundation and specialisations that will prepare them for their career in hospitality.
