Wego shares where Saudi travellers are going this winter

Wego shares where Saudi travellers are going this winter

Wego’s latest data reveals a robust appetite among Saudi travellers this winter, with both domestic and international destinations seeing increased demand.

Key winter travel trends

Wego’s data has revealed a 33.58% increase in international flight searches from Saudi Arabia compared to the previous winter. This surge in demand is accompanied by an encouraging decrease in average travel costs. Notably, airfares this winter are 25.47% lower than the peak summer 2024 season. While YoY airfares exhibit modest stability with a 3% decrease, the overall trend indicates a favourable travel environment for Saudi travellers.

Wego has identified Egypt, Pakistan, and India as the most sought-after destinations for Saudi travellers this season, closely followed by TΓΌrkiye and the United Arab Emirates. This pattern reflects a significant trend among Saudi expat residents returning to their home countries for year-end festivities.

Furthermore, the popularity of TΓΌrkiye and the UAE underscores their appeal as multifaceted destinations blending cultural familiarity, convenient accessibility and exceptional offering. While TΓΌrkiye continues to captivate Saudi travellers with its rich historical tapestry, incredible landscapes, and diverse culinary offerings, the UAE’s proximity, luxurious experiences, and family-friendly attractions solidify its position as a perennial favourite for quick getaways.

The findings also show that year-end travel for Saudi residents transcends mere leisure; it is deeply intertwined with fostering meaningful connections and celebrating shared cultural experiences.

Wego also observed a burgeoning interest among Saudi travellers in exploring distant shores this winter. In Southeast Asia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines have emerged as top contenders; whereas closer to the west, the United Kingdom, Azerbaijan, and Italy are proving to be highly popular destinations.

“The data unequivocally demonstrates a clear preference for both regional trips to destinations of cultural significance and international journeys that offer novel experiences. With the burgeoning interest in long-haul travel and the facilitation of visa processes, we anticipate sustained growth in travel activity throughout the remainder of the season. Wego remains steadfast in its commitment to providing our users with the most optimal travel options and experiences.” – Mamoun Hmidan, Chief Business Officer at Wego.

Facilitating international travel

Saudi nationals enjoy the benefit of visa exemptions or simplified visa procedures in many sought-after destinations including Thailand, Indonesia, the UAE, the Philippines, and TΓΌrkiye. For travel to Pakistan, India, Azerbaijan, and the UK, obtaining an e-Visa or ETA is quick and easy, making international travel planning a breeze.
