Tourism in Azerbaijan has been on the rise, particularly from Middle Eastern countries. In the first two months of 2024 alone, tourist arrivals was up by a whopping 46.7% compared to the same period last year, totalling 341,000 visitors. Notable increases were seen from Saudi Arabia (3.4%) and Iran (9.8%). In 2023, arrivals from Bahrain increased by 2.5 times, Egypt by 1.7 times, Oman by 1.9 times, Jordan by 1.8 times, Kuwait by 1.6 times, and Iran by 1.6 times. Overall, the number of arrivals from Gulf States rose by 1.7 times from January to February 2024.
Vugar Bayramov, a member of the Azerbaijani Parliament Committee on Economic Policy, Industry, and Entrepreneurship, highlighted the increase in tourists were due to the rise in flights from Baku, the availability of more economy-class flights, and growing interest in Azerbaijan’s seasonal tourism potential. This partnership with Wego is poised to capitalise on these trends, further driving tourism growth and showcasing Azerbaijan as an attractive destination for MENA travellers.
