Abu Dhabi Airports and Etihad Airways have launched a new Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program to support travellers with autism, chronic pain or anxiety.
The program rolled out this week at Zayed International Airport and onboard Etihad Airways flights and aims to provide discreet support for passengers with non-visible disabilities.
Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports said the program is a natural extension of the groupβs dedication to providing seamless and inclusive travel for all passengers.
Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer at Etihad Airways added that the airline wants to ensure all guests are catered for, and all experiences are as βsmooth and seamless as possible for everyoneβ.
βWeβre honoured to join the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower programme to educate our teams on the wide range of non-visible disabilities and affirm our reputation for exceptional hospitality can be enjoyed by all,β Neves said.
How does it work?
Passengers with hidden disabilities can pick up a Sunflower lanyard at two dedicated assistance desks to Zayed International Airport. The lanyard discreetly indicates to staff specific requirements for the individual such as additional assistance or compassion.
As an added measure of the program, frontline teams at the airport and the airline have undergone specialised training to better understand the needs of passengers with hidden disabilities and provide the right assistance. Travellers will be able to identify these team members by a Sunflower pin on their uniforms.
βOur staff are now even better equipped to assist passengers who may require a little extra time, understanding, or assistance, ensuring a smoother and more positive experience for everyone,β Sorlini said.
