Emirates Airlines and Wimbledon may belong to different realms—aviation and tennis—but their shared values and recent partnership highlight a few parallels. This year, Emirates made its debut as it kicked off the multi-year deal as the official airline partner of the Championships, Wimbledon, with custom A380 livery and in-flight service.

To celebrate, we’re looking at the parallels between Emirates and Wimbledon, and they might have more in common than you think.

Birds of prey

No one wants a pigeon interrupting the match, which is why the Wimbledon courts are patrolled by Harris Hawk Rufus, who scares them away during the event. Similarly, Emirates has a cultural and historical connection to another bird of prey, falcons, in the UAE. Some passengers have even had them fly with them in the cabin!

Souvenir Memories

Wimbledon merchandise, such as umbrellas, sportswear, caps, and wristbands, is highly sought-after, and keepsakes fetch hundreds of pounds after the event. Commemorative pieces and special souvenirs are available each year to buy. Emirates also has its own store with merchandise, which has grown in demand among travellers. This year, Emirates and Wimbledon have joined forces to provide custom souvenirs online for passengers.

Emirates’ signature strawberries and cream dessert served on select flights during Wimbledon season is a nod to Wimbledon’s long-standing tradition of serving strawberries and cream to spectators. This unique offering creates a unique connection for tennis fans flying Emirates, bringing a taste of Wimbledon to the skies.

Floral flair

Wimbledon’s grounds have beautiful floral arrangements each year, a tradition that enhances the tournament’s visual appeal and social ‘sharability’. But did you know Emirates purchases 1.2 million fresh purple orchids each year? The use of fresh flowers and elegant design elements reflects a shared commitment to aesthetic excellence.

Innovation in the field

At the heart of both Emirates and Wimbledon is a balance between tradition and innovation. Wimbledon respects tradition while incorporating modern technology, like introducing roofs on the No. 1 and Centre Court. Similarly, Emirates honours the timeless elegance of travel while continuously innovating to enhance passenger comfort and convenience. This shared ethos underpins their partnership, making it a natural collaboration.
