
The American Express 2025 Global Travel Trends Report uncovers the motivations and preferences of Gen Z and Millennial travellers, providing valuable insights for the travel industry. The report highlights four major trends shaping the future of travel:
1. Memory travel
Travellers prioritize creating lasting memories and supporting local communities. 73% of global respondents consider it important to support local small businesses while visiting a new destination. Additionally, 82% of Millennials and Gen Z travellers seek unique, one-of-a-kind goods to commemorate their trips.
2. Family travel
Millennials and Gen Z parents are redefining family travel. 58% plan to bring extended family on vacation in 2025, citing “quality time” as the primary reason (89%). Children also play a significant role in planning family trips, with 68% of Millennials and Gen Z parents involving their kids in the decision-making process.
3. Benefit travel
Travellers are increasingly looking for ways to maximise their travel rewards. 66% of global respondents believe that combining credit card rewards with other loyalty perks provides the best value for international trips. Additionally, 58% of travellers are likely to stack benefits from multiple loyalty programs to upgrade their travel experiences.
4. Tap-in and take-off travel
Younger generations are embracing AI-powered travel planning and mobile booking. 83% of Millennials and Gen Z travelers find AI-powered travel planning useful, while 80% prefer using travel apps and social media for planning. Additionally, 66% of Millennials and Gen Z travellers typically download relevant travel apps before their trips.
