The most luxurious wedding destinations in Oman

Oman offers a range of venues from ancient forts to opulent resorts set amidst natural wonders, blending modern luxury with traditional Arabian charm. With its warm hospitality and palatial hotels there is an atmosphere of elegance that appeals to international couples (it has even become a hot spot for big Indian destination weddings in recent years). Here are four of our favourite luxury wedding destinations in Oman.

When is the best time to get married in Oman?

The ideal time for a wedding in Oman is during the cooler months, between October and April. In these months, the weather ranges from pleasantly warm to mild, with clear skies perfect for outdoor ceremonies in gardens or on the beach.

December to March, in particular, see very comfortable temperatures and almost no rain, which is why most destination weddings (and tourist events) in Oman are scheduled then. However, this is peak season, so venues and hotels are in high demand.

If you’re considering a summer wedding (June to August), keep in mind that Muscat and interior Oman become extremely hot, so an indoor ballroom wedding with air conditioning would be the way to go, or you might choose a mountain venue which is often cooler.

Shangri-La Al Husn, Muscat

Location: Clifftop setting in Muscat. The resort’s elevation provides dramatic coastal vistas and total privacy.

Shangri-La Al Husn is often cited as one of Oman’s most exclusive wedding venues, offering complete privacy and a sense of Arabian fairy-tale glamour. Overlooking the sea from a height, you get the best of Oman’s natural beauty with the comfort of a five-star palace. It’s an especially great choice for couples seeking a more intimate celebration or a luxurious honeymoon extension, and yet it’s just a short drive from Muscat’s city center for guest convenience.

Standout feature: A private cove and beach accessible only to Al Husn guests, ideal for romantic beachfront ceremonies. The resort’s cliffside gardens and terraces offer stunning sunset backdrops for vow exchanges. Its spa and honeymoon suites provide pampering pre- and post-wedding, and couples can even arrange exclusive dining experiences on the beach or clifftop (“Dine by Design”) for an extra touch of romance.

Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort (Green Mountain)

Location: One of the highest luxury resorts in the Middle East, perched over 2,000m above sea level on Oman’s “Green Mountain.”

Guests will talk about the wedding not only for its romance but also for the experience of being on “the roof of Oman.” It’s the perfect venue for couples who want something off the beaten path without sacrificing luxury. And despite the elevation, it has all the comforts: fine dining, a world-class spa, and even a helipad to arrive in style. A wedding here is truly “on top of the world” (as the resort’s slogan suggests) intimate, breathtaking, and utterly memorable.

Standout features: Famous for its Diana’s Point platform, a glass-walled terrace extending over the canyon, an unbelievable ceremony spot for up to 20 guests. The resort itself is 5-star all the way: 82 canyon-view rooms and 33 private pool villas ensure ample accommodation for guests with top-notch amenities.

The design is fort-like and chic, incorporating local stone and contemporary style. Weddings here come with a dedicated planner and can include buying out the entire resort for complete privacy.

The Al Ain Grand Ballroom can host around 120 guests for dinner and dancing, with floor-to-ceiling windows so your reception still has a mountain view. From floral arrangements to group excursions (hiking or cultural tours for guests), the resort’s team handles every detail.

The Ritz-Carlton, Al Bustan Palace

Location: A private beachfront in Muscat. Despite the secluded feel, it’s only about 20 km from Muscat’s city centre, making logistics convenient.

Once a real palace, Al Bustan Palace (managed by Ritz-Carlton) is a symbol of Omani opulence and hospitality. Al Bustan is often called a “palace of opulence” with 18m high domed ceilings, elaborate chandeliers, and marble.

For weddings, the highlight is the Al Majan Ballroom, the largest in Muscat, accommodating up to 2,000 guests for a reception. The ballroom features ornate arabesque details and a grand foyer with its own entrance. In addition, the hotel offers 19 indoor and 4 outdoor venues, including ballroom salons, meeting rooms, and two expansive lawn areas by the beach.

Standout features: Al Bustan’s private beach and infinity pool area are spectacular for events, couples have held stunning sunset ceremonies or mandap setups right by the infinity pool overlooking the sea, giving a mix of ocean and mountain scenery. The palace’s gardens can host large outdoor dinners or a sehrabandi (groom’s welcome) under the palms. This venue is favoured for very large weddings that still want privacy. Full resort buyouts are available for large parties.

Wahiba Sands (Desert Luxury Camp)

Location: Wahiba Sands is a desert region about 2-3 hours from Muscat. It’s accessible only by 4×4 vehicles as you venture off-road into the dunes.

For those who want the unique desert experience, Oman’s Wahiba Sands are unforgettable with an Arabian Nights backdrop for a wedding under the stars. Many companies offer luxury desert camps specifically for luxury weddings. These aren’t rough camps, you can have 5-star tents with proper beds, en-suite bathrooms, and Arabian carpets.

A team of professional camp staff (and often wedding planners who specialise in desert events) will create a venue from scratch. From a beautiful tented banquet hall and mood lighting on the dunes, to all necessary amenities including generators for power, and chilled drinks. Despite being in the wilderness, you can enjoy catered gourmet dining alongside the comfort and privacy of a wedding in the desert.

Standout features: The natural beauty of the desert is the main decor, soft dune silhouettes, dramatic sunsets, and an unrivalled night sky. Couples often hold the ceremony at sunset on a dune crest (with rugs and pillows for seating) as the sky turns orange-pink. As night falls, the camp comes alive with lanterns and a bonfire. The Milky Way is often visible for stunning nighttime photos, and with the right wedding planner traditional dances and entertainment can join you throughout the night.

Oman stands out as a luxury wedding venue thanks to its variety of stunning and historical locations. From the cliff tops to the private beaches, Oman is the perfect location to celebrate love.
