Online travel agent Wego has teamed up with the Aseer Region Development Authority (ASDA) to promote the natrual and cultural richness of Saudi Arabia’s Aseer region in the Kingdom’s southwest.

The partnership will put a spotlight on the region’s diverse attractions including its rugged landscape of mountain ranges, verdant valleys and vibrant cultural heritage, and position it as a must-visit destination for travellers seeking authentic and immersive experiences.

With access to carefully crafted itineraries and expert advice, travellers will be better equipped with useful information for their visits. From hiking and other outdoor activities and exploring the many quaint and historic villages to experiencing the traditional markets, art and cuisine, this partnership aims to provide Wego users plenty of inspiration.

What’s on offer in Aseer?

Boasting dense vegetation including evergreen trees, Aseer is Saudi’s greenest region and is home to 80% of the Kingdom’s forests. The Kingdom has approximately 2,234 species of natural planets, 70% of which can be found in this region.

Hikers and outdoor enthusiasts will not only enjoy the rugged mountains ranging from 2000m to 3000m, which occupy just over 34% of Aseer, but also the region’s 125km spectacular coastline which extends to the west of the Red Sea encompassing the historic port of Qahma as well as several small islands overlooking it (including the most famous, Kadambal).

Then there’s the deserts across Bisha and Tathleeth, and the Sarat highlands separating the coastal valleys of Tihama from the inland valleys. Popular valleys in the region include Wadi Bisha, Wadi Yabah and Wadi Heli.

When it comes to traditional and heritage villages for some authentic Aseer lifestyle, local art and flavours, travellers are spoilt for choice with the likes of Al-Yanfeh, Cypress, AlQuraya, Jadham, Al Jaal and Al Obaid, Najajir, Al Banhar, Al Khalaf, Al Alaya, and Al Masqi.
