Global superstar Neymar Jr. has become the latest icon to endorse the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, calling it a “great opportunity” for Saudi Arabia.

The Brazilian forward, who joined Al Hilal in 2023, praised the event for showcasing the Kingdom’s culture and hospitality during a visit on Tuesday.

Commenting on the success of the event, he said, β€œThis is a great opportunity for the country, especially in terms of the visibility it has generated. It allows people to see what Saudi Arabia is really like. I’ve learned a lot of positive things since coming here. It’s a fantastic country, with positive and happy people, and I hope this event this the first of many in the years ahead because it has opened new doors for the world to experience Saudi Arabia.”

Neymar led ‘Team Neymar Jr’ to victory in a special cross-competition event at Boulevard Riyadh City, impressing the capacity crowd at the SEF Arena.

He commended the arena, saying, “The SEF Arena is incredible – I love it. I’ve played here a bit, and it’s surreal to see what they’ve accomplished in just a few months by building it.

“I love the vibe here, everyone I’ve met is so nice and the atmosphere is fantastic. This shows that Saudi Arabia is doing something truly amazing in the gaming and esports world. The Kingdom has become a pioneer for the industry while opening up opportunities across for the region and whole world to be a part of.”

As a lifelong gaming fan and part-owner of FURIA Esports, Neymar is excited about the future of esports. He said, “Esports has a promising future… it’s exciting for everyone involved, and young people can turn their passion into a career.”

The Esports World Cup continues at Boulevard Riyadh City, with the PUBG Battlegrounds final on Saturday and the grand finals of the other three tournaments on Sunday, followed by the Closing Ceremony.
