Transforming Saudi Arabia’s coastline: a new era for yacht tourism

Saudi Arabia’s coastal tourism sector is on the cusp of a major transformation, thanks to the Saudi Red Sea Authority’s (SRSA) pioneering efforts. As part of the kingdom’s ambitious Vision 2030 plan, SRSA is driving growth in yacht tourism, introducing innovative regulations like the Saudi Yacht Regulation and the Marina Design and Operations Regulation.

This forward-thinking approach has led to a surge in infrastructure development along the Red Sea, with 29 tourism licences issued to support yacht tourism businesses, including yacht chartering companies, marina operators, and technical service providers.

The Red Sea region is a treasure trove of natural and cultural wonders, boasting 1,800 km of stunning coastline, over 1,000 islands, and 150 pristine beaches. This breathtaking landscape offers endless opportunities for yacht tourism, from snorkelling and diving to sailing and island-hopping.

To take Saudi Arabia’s yacht tourism industry to the next level, SRSA is forging international partnerships and collaborating with leading institutions like the Yacht Club de Monaco and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

By 2030, the SRSA has set ambitious targets to welcome 250,000 visitors for yacht-related activities, inject approximately $2.9 billion into the local economy through tourism spending, and create around 28,000 jobs in the sector. Yacht tourism was valued at $7.67 billion in 2023 and is forecast to reach $17.33 billion by 2032.
