Oman Air to launch Muscat-Rome service
Oman Air will commence its first-ever direct flights between Muscat and Rome starting 20 December 2024. The new route, operating four times per week, marks a significant expansion of the airline’s European network. This route represents the airline’s first new destination in five years and is part of a broader strategy to use more of its narrow-body fleet. Flights will depart Muscat at 3 pm and arrive in Rome at 7:30 pm, with return flights leaving Rome at 8:20 pm and arriving in Muscat at 5:45 am. Meanwhile, Bahrain has shared that they have plans to expand its air connectivity to 100 new destinations by 2026.
New codeshare between Saudia and Delta
Saudia and Delta Air Lines have signed a codeshare agreement that expands the connectivity between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia. This agreement allows Saudia passengers to access 12 destinations in the U.S. beyond Delta’s hubs at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), while Delta passengers gain access to 9 destinations across Saudi Arabia and the broader Middle East.
The collaboration builds on their existing interline relationship and strengthens ties between the two SkyTeam alliance members, with travellers benefiting from joint frequent flyer programs and premium services like SkyPriority. This partnership is expected to boost both tourism and business travel, enhancing the global network of both carriers.
Cathay Pacific launches Hong Kong-Riyadh route
Starting on 28 October 2024, Cathay Pacific will operate direct flights between Hong Kong and Riyadh three times a week. The route will be serviced by the Airbus A350-900, featuring Business, Premium Economy, and Economy class cabins as part of Hong Kong’s strategy to strengthen ties with Middle Eastern countries under the Belt and Road Initiative. The new service aims to enhance trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between the two cities. The flights also complement Cathayβs cargo operations, which already serve Riyadh.
Emirates and EFTA celebrate World Teachersβ Day, takes Americaβs Cup Trophy from Auckland to Barcelona, and enhances the travel experience for people of determination
On World Teachersβ Day (5 October), Emirates and instructors from Emirates Flight Training Academy (EFTA) celebrated the vital role of educators in shaping future generations of aviation professionals. EFTA instructors must have 700 hours of flight experience and either a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) or Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) to join the program and Emiratesβ flight instructors must have 1,500+ hours, the same licensing and experience in an instructor/examiner role. This initiative highlights the importance of quality education and professional mentorship in aviation, emphasising Emiratesβ commitment to supporting teachers and educators globally.
Meanwhile on the sports front and in a demonstration of its global logistics capabilities, Emirates recently transported the prestigious America’s Cup trophy from Auckland, New Zealand, to Barcelona, Spain, ahead of the competitionβs 2024 match race finals. The airline, an official event sponsor, played a key role in ensuring the trophyβs safe arrival. The America’s Cup, one of the oldest and most coveted trophies in international sports, is renowned for its challenging logistics, making Emirates’ involvement a significant moment for the airline’s cargo operations.
Finally, Emirates showcased its latest innovations for accessible travel at the 6th AccessAbilities Expo in Dubai, reinforcing its “Fly Better” promise. Unveiling a suite of services and products for People of Determination, Emirates introduced cutting-edge solutions including virtual reality airport tours, sign language robots, protective wheelchair transportation devices, and sensory guides. This enhanced focus on accessibility follows the introduction of Emirates’ Accessibility Policy and the launch of its Office of Accessibility and Inclusion. Dubai Airports launches service excellence campaign, announces worldβs biggest solar panel project
Dubai Airports has released a heartwarming film celebrating the dedication and teamwork behind its world-class guest experience at Dubai International (DXB). The video, unveiled at the oneDXB Chairmanβs Awards, honours staff who go above and beyond, showcasing real stories of exceptional service. From reuniting lost items like a childβs bunny and a misplaced passport, to comforting travellers with special needs, the film highlights the spirit of collaboration that makes DXB a global leader. Chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum praised the team, emphasising that people, not just technology, drive the airportβs success.
In other news, the team at Dubai Airports is also collaborating with Etihad Clean Energy Development to build the worldβs largest rooftop solar panel project. The aim is to have 62,904 solar panels installed across Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum International (DWC) airports by 2026. The project is predicted to generate 39 (MWp) of clean energy and aims to meet 6.5% of DXB’s and 20% of DWC’s power needs, reducing annual CO2 emissions by 23,000 tonnes. The project aligns with Dubai’s goal of achieving 100% clean energy by 2050, marking a major step in sustainable airport operations.
ADNEC launches charter flights from Uzbekistan to Al Ain
The Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company Group’s (ADNEC) Tourism 365 has signed an agreement to launch the first charter flight between Uzbekistan and Al Ain, operated by Air Samarkand. This partnership will facilitate direct flights aimed at boosting tourism and trade between the two regions. Al Ainβs strategic location and cultural significance make it an attractive destination for visitors, and this new service aligns with ADNECβs goal of promoting the region’s economic growth and enhancing its connectivity with key global markets. The charter service marks a milestone in strengthening UAE-Uzbekistan relations.
New international airports planned for Algeria and Egypt
Algeria and Egypt are set to expand their aviation infrastructure with the construction of two new international airports. Algeriaβs new airport will be located in BΓ©ni AbbΓ¨s, in the southwestern Sahara region, to boost tourism and economic development in this remote area.
Egyptβs project, planned for Ras El-Hekma on the Mediterranean coast, seeks to replicate the success of its Red Sea resorts and attract more tourists to the region. Both airports highlight each country’s efforts to enhance air connectivity and regional growth.
Etihad opens wellness spa at AUH
Etihad Airways, in partnership with Be Relax, has launched a new 24/7 wellness spa at Zayed International Airport (AUH). First Class or βThe Residenceβ travellers will have complimentary spa services during their journey in the premium lounge. The spa offers a range of relaxation and wellness treatments designed specifically for travellers, ensuring comfort and rejuvenation before flights, from facial and skincare treatments to massages, nail care, and barber services.
