The UAE is on the cusp of a gaming revolution, and Wynn Resorts is leading the way. With its strategic move to tap into the UAE’s vast and untapped gaming market, the legendary brand is poised to redefine the country’s entertainment landscape.

Unlocking the UAE’s gaming potential

The US$3.8B Wynn Al Marjan Island resort is scheduled to open in 2027, and promises to offer unparalleled luxury, five-star facilities, high-end gaming options, and breathtaking Arabian Gulf views.

Catering to a diverse market, the resort will provide a unique experience for the country’s large expatriate community and booming tourism industry. This move is expected to attract high-end gamers from around the world, further solidifying the UAE’s position as a premier tourist destination.

Boosting Ras Al Khaimah’s economy

The Wynn Al Marjan Island resort will no doubt have a profound impact on Ras Al Khaimah’s economy. With at least 4,000 new job opportunities expected to be created, according to a report by The National, the resort will provide a significant boost to local employment and enhance the emirate’s tourism infrastructure.

The economic benefits will be felt across various sectors, including hospitality, retail, and transportation; and the increased tourism activity will also attract new businesses and investments to the region.

Gaming in the UAE explained

The UAE has taken a significant step towards regulating its gaming industry with the establishment of the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA). Formed in September 2023, this federal entity is led by veterans of the gaming industry and oversees all commercial gaming activities in the UAE.

The GCGRA has already made headlines by awarding the country’s first authorised lottery license to The Game LLC, which will operate under the banner of UAE Lottery. This move is expected to offer a range of games, with more information on how to play coming soon. In a past interview with The National, Kevin Mullally, CEO of the GCGRA, said the authority’s regulatory framework is designed to ensure the integrity, fairness, and transparency of commercial gaming activities, including lottery games.

So what exactly does the GCGRA regulate? The answer is commercial gaming activities, which include:

  • Lottery: Games of chance where players can win cash or valuable items.
  • Internet gaming: Online games like bingo, casino games, eSports, and fantasy games.
  • Sports wagering: Betting on sports events.
  • Land-based gaming: Casinos and resorts with gaming facilities.

The GCGRA’s role is crucial in protecting consumers and stakeholders by ensuring that all gaming activities are conducted in a fair and transparent manner. Engaging in commercial gaming without approval from the GCGRA is illegal and can result in severe penalties. As the UAE’s gaming industry continues to evolve, the GCGRA will play a vital role in shaping its future.

The resort’s extensive amenities and facilities are designed to impress. The pool area, spanning 3.6 hectares, will feature multiple swimming and wading pools, water features, private cabanas, and lush tropical landscaping.

Gourmands will delight in the curated collection of 22 dining, lounge, and bar experiences, each boasting uniquely designed spaces with sweeping water views.
