The Middle East is a region renowned for its ambitious spirit and record-breaking achievements. From towering skyscrapers to expansive festivals, here are some of the most impressive feats that showcase the region’s dedication to pushing boundaries.

1. Burj Khalifa: The tallest building in the world

Standing at a staggering 828m (2,717 ft), the Burj Khalifa in Dubai holds the title of the world’s tallest building. This architectural marvel has become a global icon since its completion in 2010. 

2. Gevora Hotel: The tallest hotel in the world

Also located in Dubai, the Gevora Hotel stands at 356m (1,168 ft) with 75 floors and 529 rooms. Opened in 2018, it offers luxury accommodations and dining experiences in the heart of the city. 

3. The Palm Fountain: The largest fountain in the world

Unveiled in October 2020 at The Pointe on Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, The Palm Fountain spans over 7,327 sq m, earning it the Guinness World Record for the largest fountain. It features captivating water shows choreographed to music, illuminated by thousands of LED lights. 

4. Jeddah Superdome: The largest freestanding dome

Located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the Jeddah Superdome is the world’s largest geodesic dome and the largest freestanding dome in the world, boasting a diameter of 210m. Opened in 2021, it serves as a versatile venue for events, exhibitions, and conferences. 

5. Dubai Mall: The most visited shopping mall in the world

Dubai Mall, attracted over 105 million visitors in 2023, making it the most visited place on Earth that year. In 2024, it broke its own visitor records making it the most visited shopping mall in the world for a second year running. As the mall is set to expand further with a $600 million investment, it’s likely to break the record again in the coming years. 

6. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque: The largest hand-woven carpet in the world

In the main prayer hall of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque you’ll find the world’s largest hand-woven carpet, covering more than 5,600 sq m. Crafted by around 1,200 artisans, it showcases intricate Islamic medallion designs. 

7. Liwa Board: The tallest landmark sign

Located in Al Dhafra, the Liwa Board set a Guinness World Record on 29 May 2024 for being the tallest landmark sign in the world, coming in at an impressive 49 tonnes and 221m high.  

8. Jebel Jais Flight: The world’s longest zipline

In Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, adventure enthusiasts can experience the Jebel Jais Flight, the world’s longest zipline, stretching 2,831.88m (9,291 ft). Established in 2018, it offers a thrilling ride over the stunning Jebel Jais mountains. 

9. Dubai Frame: The largest picture frame

Standing at 150m tall and 93m wide, the Dubai Frame in Zabeel Park is the largest picture frame in the world. Since its opening in 2018, it has offered panoramic views of both old and new Dubai as well as augmented reality on its multi levels. 

10. Ciel Tower: The future tallest hotel

Dubai’s Ciel Tower, currently under construction in the Marina district, is poised to become the world’s tallest hotel at 365m (1,197 ft) upon its completion. The 82-floor skyscraper will feature over 1,000 rooms and the highest infinity pool, offering panoramic views of the city. 

11. Ain Dubai: The world’s largest Ferris wheel

Ain Dubai stands at 250m (820 ft) on Bluewaters Island, making it the world’s largest Ferris wheel. Each of its 48 cabins can hold up to 40 passengers and has offered unparalleled views of Dubai’s skyline since October 2021. 

12. Deep Dive Dubai: The world’s deepest swimming pool

In June 2021, Dubai unveiled Deep Dive Dubai, the world’s deepest swimming pool, reaching a depth of 60m (196 ft). This indoor facility features a sunken city for divers to explore, complete with apartments, garages, and arcade games. 

13. Formula Rossa: The world’s fastest roller coaster

Located at Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi, Formula Rossa accelerates to 240 km/h (149 mph) in just 4.9 seconds, making it the world’s fastest roller coaster. Since its opening in 2010, it has thrilled countless visitors seeking an adrenaline rush and garnered itself a Guinness world record.
