Ras Al Khaimah’s (RAK) tourism sector continues to build momentum, with the Emirate’s second Tourism Townhall of the year drawing a full house of stakeholders, partners, and hoteliers. The gathering highlighted both record-breaking achievements in 2024 and the Emirate’s ambitions for the years ahead, while also marking a significant change in leadership at the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA).
Record-breaking year for RAK tourism
The Townhall followed RAKTDA’s announcement of its strongest year on record. In 2024, Ras Al Khaimah welcomed 1.28 million overnight arrivals, representing a milestone for the Emirate. Tourism revenues rose by 12%, and Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) visitors increased by 15% YoY.
Growth was fuelled by a combination of factors, including the launch of new luxury resorts such as the Sofitel Al Hamra Beach Resort and Anantara Mina Al Arab Resort, improved global connectivity through new direct flights, and a busy events calendar featuring the Arab Aviation Summit, Ras Al Khaimah Golf Championship, and a record-breaking New Year’s Eve drone display that secured two Guinness World Records.
Sustainability was also a key driver of Ras Al Khaimah’s success. The Emirate was the first in the region to achieve EarthCheck Silver Certification and was named the Middle East’s Most Sustainable Project at the Forbes Middle East 2024 Sustainability Leaders’ Summit.
Guest insights on travel trends
The event also featured two guest speakers offering insights into global tourism trends. Guillaume Massey from Expedia Group provided destination-specific data and analysis, while Jeremy Jauncey, CEO of Beautiful Destinations, examined the role of search and content in shaping traveller decision-making.
Their perspectives complemented updates from RAKTDA’s leadership team, which reaffirmed the Emirate’s long-term vision of attracting 3.5 million visitors annually by 2030.

A leadership transition into a new era
This Townhall, however, carried particular significance as it marked the official handover of leadership at RAKTDA. CEO Raki Phillips, who has led the authority since 2019, stepped down, and passed the baton to Philippa Harrison who has officially taken the helm.
Phillips, who oversaw the Emirate’s period of record growth and global recognition, was praised for his vision in driving sustainability, expanding connectivity, and positioning Ras Al Khaimah as an emerging global destination. Harrison’s appointment signals the start of a new chapter for RAKTDA, with stakeholders expressing optimism for continued momentum under her leadership.
