First tourist destination in Yanbu city, Saudi Arabia
Baheej Tourism Development Company has unveiled the first tourist destination in Yanbu City, Saudi Arabia. The project aims to support Saudi Vision 2030 by developing Yanbu’s waterfront to offer a luxury hotel, tourist centre and beachfront with a focus on sustainability as well as local culture and heritage. The project is expected to be completed by 2027 and aims to boost tourism, create jobs, and integrate local businesses, enhancing the regional economy and promoting Saudi Arabia as a global tourist destination.
Qatar to host 51st UNWTO
Qatar will host the 51st meeting of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for the Middle East in 2025, reinforcing its cultural and economic hub status. The announcement followed the 50th meeting in Oman, which emphasised regional tourism cooperation and the upcoming implementation of the unified Gulf tourist visa. Discussions included tourism investments and the launch of the Qatar Tourism Awards’ second edition.
Jordan launches new campaigns in new markets
The Jordan Tourism Board is launching promotional campaigns targeting new markets in Africa, Asia and Latin America to maintain visitor numbers. Tourism contributed 15% to Jordan’s GDP in 2023, but the Israel-Gaza conflict has impacted regional stability, and therefore, flat growth is expected in tourist arrivals in 2024. The new promotional efforts include collaborating with airlines and focusing on medical tourism and historical sites to offset tourist decline from traditional markets like the US and Europe.
Dubai to host 40+ sports events in June
Dubai will host more than 40 local and international sports events this month, featuring a range of activities including the Asian Basketball Champions League, Du Gym International Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship, King of Table International Arm-Wrestling, and World Cycling Day celebrations. Other notable events include the FCC Boxing, Nightshot International Open Billiards Tournament, and various gymnastics and padel championships. These events aim to engage Emirati and expatriate athletes and promote sports and fitness across different locations in Dubai.
